If you have your flight ready, it’s time to pack everything you need, and although it seems like a straightforward task, you need to know what items are permitted in your baggage to travel with ease.

People like to travel their way, so that’s why we offer customizable fares. You decide what you want to bring and how much to pay. Below are the different types of baggage allowed and the baggage measurements on Viva Aerobus.

What can I bring onboard the aircraft?

Any liquid, aerosol, or gel in your carry-on must not exceed 100ml and must be in small containers inside a clear, resealable plastic bag. You can also bring 100 ml of liquid medicine along with your prescription.

When traveling to the United States, there is an additional restriction not to bring powdered products greater than 350 grams in your carry-on bag, except when traveling with a baby, where powdered milk, water, and food are permitted. Learn more about our Baby Package.

Personal item

Any fare you choose will include a personal item: a bag, backpack, or briefcase that measures no more than 18in long x 14in high x 8in wide (45cm long x 35cm high x 20cm wide). This item must remain under the seat in front of you and clear of emergency exits.

Carry-on

For Light, Extra, and Smart, your carry-on bag can be 16in long x 10in wide x 22in high (40 cm long, 25cm wide, and 55 cm high). Keep in mind your carry-on is measured from the wheels to the handles, and the maximum allowed weight is 22 lbs. (10 kg); otherwise, you will have to check it.

When flying with Viva, you can transport canned and non-perishable food and ashes of human remains and pets in a sealed urn in your carry-on, but you must give prior notice and bring a death and cremation certificate with you.

Remember, any baggage traveling in the passenger cabin must comply with our baggage measurements so you can have it immediately upon disembarking the aircraft, instead of checking it below the plane.

Checked baggage

With Extra or Smart, your first checked bag is included with a maximum weight of 33 lbs (15 kg) for Extra and 55 lbs (25 kg) for Smart. The allowed dimensions are 62 linear inches (158 cm in perimeter: length + width + height), including wheels and handles.

Special equipment

  • Musical instruments and sports equipment. According to the shape, size, and weight, they may travel as a carry-on or as checked baggage, in hard cases that do not weigh more than 71 lbs (32 kg) and measure more than 126 linear inches (319 cm in perimeter).
  • Weapons transportation. You can transport firearms and ammunition in checked baggage, as long as you bring: the form for the transfer of firearms, individual registration, carrying permit or its defect, hunting permit, license to carry weapons, and type of ammunition used if transporting sporting goods.

Please ensure you review and comply with the inspection from security authorities. The acceptance of flying with arms or ammunition on Viva is subject to approval. Learn more here.

We recommend checking the availability to transport your weapons by contacting our Call Center at 81 82 150 150. There are limits per plane, and make sure to arrive at the airport 3 hours prior to your flight for the inspection process.

How to check in baggage?

To check your baggage, arrive at our check-in counters at least 2 hours prior to the departure of your flight for domestic flights and 3 hours for international flights. Check-in counters close 45 minutes before scheduled departure in Mexico and 60 minutes before for international travel.

Prohibited items

Finally, to answer any questions, here is a list of prohibited items on Viva Aerobus:

  • Explosives
  • Lithium batteries inside checked baggage that are not part of electronic devices
  • Electric skateboards (hoverboards)
  • Chemical and toxic substances
